The whole community would lay aside their workday duties and together engage in deeply or intrinsically symbolic activities that related to the situation that they all found themselves in.

The traditions soon fall by the wayside if not participated in… We witnessed a May Pole dance a couple of years back in Glastonbury, a place that is slowly re-introducing some of these Old-Time-Rites… 😉
It is too bad if old Rites should be totally forgotten. I’d guess visitors enjoy seeing them when going there. 🙂 — Suzanne
