The panicked and the blessed

There I was, happily putting a few things together to take north at the weekend… odds and sods that need adding to the things we will be packing to take to the April workshop, when I realised that this could be it… the last time I run north before the workshop… A quick calculation says that yes, it will be just a matter of six weeks away… and I’m not ready!

Deep breath, calm down, panic over…

Okay, so what if I’m not ready… I have six weeks and that is more than enough time for what remains to be done. As long as everything goes according to plan.

Which it won’t. It never does.

And it never matters.

You name it, we’ve had all sorts of crises in the run-up to these workshops, including Steve’s heroic  last-minute re-write of the entire script when illness cut our ranks last year. And every year, everyone has left smiling.

What more can we ask? That people enjoy the weekend enough to come back?

They do… and they are amazing. They come from Scotland, the far south of England, Wales, Ireland, Europe and America. They travel so far… and this year, I did the maths. Between them, our companions will be travelling the equivalent of the circumference of the Earth at the equator… and then back again. That is a truly awesome thought…

… though I am supposed to be trying to calm the nerves here…

The three of us… Steve, Stuart and me… we are writers. We write primarily for the School; it is a niche market… we don’t expect to make it big in literary circles. Every year the School puts on its April workshop, freshly written just for the weekend. It is a lot of work… the equivalent of a fully scripted five acts for a cast of… well, we never know how many till the last minute. The scripts are not just stories… they are explorations of spiritual concepts, designed to spark thought and a deeper understanding of who and what we are as human beings. We write presentations and meditations too, then sew, paint, craft… and then write some more, to do the very best we can… for a single weekend and a couple of dozen people.

But do you know… you can keep the bestseller list.

You can keep the fame, the worldly success and glory.

Twice around the equator?

Isn’t that worth everything we can do… and then some?

What more could anyone ask for… except the grace to realise how very, very lucky we are to be doing what we do and how blessed we have been in the people who have chosen to share the journey with us.

The 2016 Silent Eye April Workshop will look at some of the esoteric aspects of the Arthurian and Grail mythos…
By developing the stories of Gawain and the Green Knight, and Lady Ragnall we will explore what it means to be fully human and fully divine.

Come with us to explore tales of the ancient past and find how they illuminate your own spiritual journey … and why they are still as relevant and resonant today.
